Laurie
Monroe, President and CEO of the Monroe
Institute, passed gently from the physical
in her sleep early on the morning of December 18, 2006.
Laurie had been diagnosed as having non-small-cell lung
cancer which had advanced to Stage 4. Complications
arising from treatment overwhelmed her body and she
moved on to a much more welcoming environment. Although
we will all miss her presence, we wish her God speed
on her journey.

New
Year's Message from IONS President James
O'Dea - "Just what is your speed as
you cross the threshold from 2006 to 2007? Time is accelerating
quickly, isn’t it? How many emails are in your inbox?
How many times do you get in and out of your car? How
many bits of information do you need to retain? How
much "news" can you take in? What is your data absorption
capacity? And how much time does all that leave for
quality relationships?"
Volunteers have been transcribing more than 30 Essential
Shifts interviews. We share three this month:
Brother
David Steindl-Rast - "[T]he great problems
that we are facing are not, in a narrow sense, religious
problems. I think the biggest problem is our relationship
to the Earth and to our environment.... And therefore
we have here not only a problem area, but also an area
that could connect us with one another, a concern that
is our shared concern."
Dean Radin - "Some of the fear and hysteria
are associated with the worldview model which might
be called a classical model, a materialistic, mechanistic
model of science, in which we can use all the natural
resources we wish and we can push people around any
way we wish because it doesn't make any difference...
That view is changing."
Van Jones - "In the last century the model
leader was the powerful speaker, and in the new century
I think the model will be the powerful listener. That's
a big shift. But because there are so many constituencies,
there is so much pain, there is so much complexity,
the real opportunity and the real challenge to lead
now is to become as powerful a listener as Dr. King
was a speaker."

"The
Sound of Transformation"
by Alice Bartholomew
"I
waken at 3:00 am in a profoundly peaceful state
from what I realize is a lucid dream. I am awestruck
as I understand that I have just witnessed wisdom.
"In
my dream, in which I was completely awake and
aware, I was in infinity. It was completely dark
and black yet I was unafraid. I enjoyed the nothingness.
Then I saw something glowing in the distance.
I was able to immediately transport myself by
thought to the source of the glowing. As I neared
this indescribably beautiful and awesome sight,
I discerned an exquisite, harmonic sound I had
never heard before."

IONS
is pleased to honor Visionary Circle member Virginia
(Gini) Miller Collier, along with her husband
Roy William Collier, whose meaningful legacy will
serve humanity for years to come. Their generous
bequest of over $25,000 to IONS will seed essential
work at the frontiers of science; promoting more
conscious paradigms and practices; and advancing
individual, social, and global transformation.
We are deeply grateful.

IONS
Founder's and above Circle members and some of
their families traveled with Edgar Mitchell, Marilyn
Mandala Schlitz and Kathleen Erickson-Freeman
for a VIP tour of NASA , the Kennedy Space Center
and a viewing of the launch of Shuttle Discovery
earlier in December.

DEAR
SWAMI
by Swami Beyondananda
"Where
Swami Answers Your Questions - and You Will Question
His Answers"
Dear
Swami:
As long time lightworkers, we have devoted our
lives to selflessly helping others, yet we ourselves
feel very unsupported. We've read every one
of those prosperity books, and don't have a
nickel to show for it. In fact, if we had a
nickel for every time we helped someone and
didn't accept a nickel for it--we'd have lots
of nickels. Is there a prosperity secret we're
missing here?
Emma & Nate Light, Santz Cruz, California
Dear Emma and Nate:
If it makes you feel any better, a lot of folks
are in your situation. I don't know if
you've seen the latest Greenspan Report
but the average American family these days doesn't
have enough green to span the average month.
As for the prosperity secrets, they can be summed
up in four words: "Write a prosperity
book." That's how those people got
rich, so why not you?
Actually,
I'm hearing a lot from folks like you two these
days, people who've helped themselves to heaping
helpings of self-help--yet still are left helplessly
hoping and hopelessly helpless. You appear to
be suffering from a condition called "Selfless
Helplessness," where you are helpless to help
yourself because you are too busy selflessly
helping others. Now of course, helping people
at your own expense is fine--until your expense
account runs out.
Time to stop selfishly hoarding all the selflessness
for yourself, and let others selflessly help
you. Put yourself in your own shoes for a change,
and help yourself to a helping of what you've
been helping others with. Just think. If you
can help just one individual--yourself--that's
one less helpless individual needing help from
others.

Connections / Monthly Intention |
|
January
Intention:
The
first of every month at noon (US Pacific), we
encourage you to take a quiet moment to link your
intention with people around the world. This month,
our intention is to open the field of visionary
possibility. Together, we affirm that we are each
capable of envisioning big dreams and attracting
the resources necessary to bring them into reality.
January
Action:
This month, we encourage you
to choose one action that is in alignment with
your biggest dream. What actions might take you
one step closer to a dream that is especially
bold?
January Question
for Reflection:
If you truly believed yourself to have limitless potential, how might you act differently in your daily life?
This month's member intention was emailed to us from Kim Fineout:
"It is my intention to leave the lightest footprint I can, and to live my life as a living example to my children. It is my intention to help affect a change. I wish to spread peace and love to all, not just my circle of friends and family. I intend to be present in the moment and be mindful of the ripples I create. I wish to always be able to see how I can be of service to others and then jump in and be of service."
If
you'd like to offer an intention for next month,
please send it here.
